Out of a million sites out there, why do only a few sites developed by great web programmers in an expert web development company standout and succeed as compared to others? What are the areas where web developers are focusing while building a new website or working on existing websites? Are they putting their efforts in the right direction?

In my experience, most of the time, the web design team and the web programmers spend too much time looking at the wrong kind of problems. And this is one of the reasons the websites don’t succeed. Ofcourse this is not purely due to the web development company, but also due to their clients.

Typically, when a web development company and expert web developers redesign an existing website and offer their suggestions/consultancy, all the feedback and suggestions provided are biased towards design and development only. Though the comments received from the project managers and web programmers are excellent, they are mostly focused on the technical aspect, quality standards, site aesthetics, usability, look and feel, brand positioning, information architecture, etc. But this is like addressing or treating the symptoms and ignoring the underlying illness/problem due to which the website is not successful.

It is important for a web developer company to cure the illness/problem and not the symptoms.

There are lot of reasons for these symptoms and bigger problems, which includes poor design, bad usability, no coding standard, and the coding and database not being scalable. When a web development company would try to address these symptoms, they will have resistance from their clients - this could be purely from difference of their own perspective or just getting the development perspective wrong. Every client and expert web development company should answer the question - “What is the purpose of this website?”. The web programmers , the web development company and the client has to tackle the business objective first in order have a successful website.
